' Jamaica 50’celebrates fifty years of Jamaican Independence through the
country’s history, its national heroes and symbols. This exhibition was created by Kingsway project. It tells the story of
Jamaican Independence Day and the journeys which Jamaican people made to
settle in Birmingham in the 1950s and 60s through their own words,
pictures, personal artefacts and memories. Coinciding with the arrival of the Jamaican Olympic team it will foster a sense of pride in Jamaica’s history and heritage, including its ethnic and cultural diversity as well as the achievements of famous Jamaican people across many areas.
