The Likes of Us
at The Crescent Theatre, 7.30pm Tuesday 29th September 2009 in Birmingham
Lyrics by Tim Rice, Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Tudor Musical Comedy Society is proud to be presenting the West Midlands County Premiere of this newly-released musical. Set in mid-Victorian London, the show tells the story of Dr. Thomas Barnado, an evangelical, entrepreneurial and philanthropic man, who's crusade to rescue the orphans of London became world-renowned with the founding of the children's homes bearing his name.
"The Likes of Us" was the first musical collaboration between Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber originally written in 1965, and although not performed at that time, it has never been forgotten. The show is a gem of a musical and includes a host of tuneful, witty and touching songs and soaring melodies, which reveal the talent and the promise of Rice and Lloyd Webber, who together went on to create the global hits "Joseph", "Evita" and "Jesus Christ Superstar".
A proportion of the Box Office takings from this production of "The Likes of Us" will be donated to Barnardo's which, although no longer running orphanages, is now one of the leading children's charities in the U.K.
